Horseshoes 2021

This year the tournament was won by Charmain and Ken Laroque, this despite one of them having a sore back. If I remember correctly, they both started out the day healthy, but once all was said and done, someone had a very sore back from carrying their partner during the exhausting heat of the day. They had both previously won, as they told us over and over and over and over… and so the crowd gave them a slow clap and went to eat a hotdog.

Jeremy Brewer and Gabe Laroque finished a close second this year. Here they proudly wear their ribbons, and do their best to lift the Swing and a Miss trophy up over their heads… just not quite enough strength to complete this mission too.

Patric’s dog takes a break in the shade of a 35C day. A scorching hot weekend kept a few away, and made sure no one got frostbite when sleeping in a tent overnight.

The north concourse was full as usual, with the Horse Lake elite purchasing weekend passes for the entire event. Must have cost at least a heifer, or perhaps a heifer and a half.

John Laroque clearly trying to decide if he should tell his wife, Makayla, that he is closer to the pin, or should he instead make the right decision, and say he has a grain of sand in his eye, and can’t see that far.

Sheila “Stripes” Laroque, rushes in to make a referees call on a close play at the pin. Luckily she did not spill a drop of her beer….What’ll you have?

The crowd spent a lot of time sitting in the shade. I was even too hot to send their kids to the cooler for another beer.

Patric Laroque tries his best to concentrate as Ian Bear whisperers sweet nothings in his ear… just as he is about to release.

Grounds-keeper Willy surveys his carefully manicured lawn that he spent all summer nurturing and pampering to be at its peak condition come the long weekend of August. Please note: Roy Nicloas sweating buckets in the top left corner, with his salty pores killing the grass. Good day to wear black pants.

Lots of extra guests arrived this year…celebrities like Teddy!

Putting the belts on the line each year brings out many of the shy, just for a chance to touch the belt.
