Big David Metheral got his seat at the table after driving for 17 hours, all through the night, uphill both ways, through smokey 2021 skies. He bluffed his way through the early rounds by folding 14 consecutive times, and using his spare time to get beer for others. Eventually they got tipsy, and the cards magically came his way. Who’d have thunk that one. Well it worked. He won. Logan Laroque finished second…again.

In 2020, Colin Laroque faced down against Logan Laroque and his pair of Aces beat Logan’s Jacks as the time ran out on the tournament at the “feature” table. The elimination of Logan cleared the “adult” table participants, while at the “kids” table, three others counted their chips but they quickly realized why they were sent to the kids table. With his sizable winnings, Colin purchased a special pass allowing him to drive down the Meewasin Valley Trails in Saskatoon whenever he wanted too.

The first Texas Hold’em poker tournament was held after the horseshoe tournament in 2019. Arm wrestling finalized the entrant lists for the two tables full of players, and after the time limits, the two tables counted up and Eric Laroque out chipped Logan Laroque and he won the inaugural Slobberknocker Poker tournament. Congrats Eric.

The poker chip bags are pre-loaded by about January awaiting the start of the tournament.

Always a super complex method of picking which table you sit at, who you play against, and how the rules committee is going to compare who wins with an uneven chip distribution between the two tables. Things got even more complex in 2021 when Dennis Laroque brought his own lunch bag, filled with his own Ripple chips.

First one out means the first pick of a seat at the fire pit. You go Owen.
