During the summers of 2009 and 2010, Dennis and Ken Laroque initiated discussions of having a family wiener roast. After discussing several locations, it was decided that the best place to hold such an event was at the farm. Ken asked his mom if they could hold the event in her yard, and she agreed as long as everybody was invited.

So on the July 1st long weekend of 2011, everyone was invited to the farm, and many came out for the day. Horseshoes were played but it was just pick up horseshoes, anybody challenged anyone else who felt like playing.

Most of the organization was around food, with Ken and Marion bringing the hotdogs and buns, Wes and Theresa brought watermelon, sunflower seeds, chips and treats, and Peter and Irene bringing marshmallows, s’more fixings, and snacks. Dennis provided some fireworks for the first ever attempt at the evening activities.

Fun was had by all.

Eventually around the fire that night, new ideas were cooked up and plans for a bigger and better event were populated.

The term “slobberknocker” was even used the next morning, as in, “How are you feeling this morning? It looks like you had a real slobberknocker last night.”
