The 2014 tournament was won by Greg Laroque and Roy Nicolas. The tournament was played on the “old granary” site, and of course things got testy when during the final game, someone’s sun glasses were lost. An official protest was filed by someone who was throwing facing west, and claimed that they looked into the sun too long. The dispute was settled by giving the complainant another beer. The Slobberknocker event switched to the August long weekend in 2014, accommodating more people who tented over night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second place winners were Ken Laroque and Theresa Laroque. Although disappointed that the “broken-wing technique” that they practiced all summer did not work, they did have another drink to soothe their hurt feelings. There is always next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roy Nicolas in his acceptance speech (which started at the ceremony and finished around the fire pit much, much later), dedicated his big win to “Truth and Justice” (and some people say a third thing, but no one could understand the slur)…it was somewhere near the 153 minute mark if you are listening to his victory speech on Spotify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special presentation of a set of rusty horseshoes was made half way through the tournament to Peter Laroque and Wes Laroque, for being the first official team out of the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the summer of 2104, the old grainery was gone, and the tournament shifted over a bit, and we played in the footprint of the of our old friend. The ground was level and it afforded us enough room to dodge a few ‘runaway’ shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original “Township 45 belts” were retired, and a new set of “Horse Lake Team Champion” belts were donated and handed out to the winners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
